Plans to demolish Saltdean Lido Community Centre!

So are we to assume that full funding to renovate the Saltdean Lido building has been secured?

A planning application has been submitted for a ‘partial demolition’ to the Grade II * (star) listed Lido building by Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (SLCIC) director Michael Bennett.

The sui generis (unique) beauty salon mentioned in the application is The White Rooms Beauty Therapy.  They have been operating from the Lido building for the last 13 years. The planning notice placed on a lamppost today (15/10/2016) opposite their salon was the first time they have been made aware of this new development. We understand that the area The White Rooms occupy is part of the original 1938 building so we assume is inclusive of the Grade II * listing.

At the time of writing there doesn’t appear to be any recent updates, or clarification regarding this application from The Saltdean Lido CIC on either their website or social media.

Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC)  currently own the Saltdean Lido building and lease it out to the White Rooms Beauty Therapy. This is what it says on the planning section of the BHCC website:

Alterations to include: Reinstated internal spiral staircase to first floor and external seating area; new entrance area with stairs, lifts and WC’s, reconfigured rooftop plant including reinstated chimney stack, new windows and doors and external hard/soft landscaping including pathways, forecourts and cycle parking.
